Everyone has their dream house in the town of their dreams. Last month, my family moved to ours...okay so the house is not special, but the location sure is. My family moved from Northern Saskatchewan to Hinton, Alberta...at the foothills of the Rockies and minutes from the entrance of Jasper National Park. Living in the mountains has been my dream since I strapped on my first snowboard. So finally being here and seeing the mountains on my morning drive is so surreal. We have been so freaking busy unpacking and getting settled in our new town that we haven't had much time to explore its beauty. Today though, we couldn't stay indoors. With the weather warm and a full tank of gas, we headed out with a plan to visit Mount Edith Cavell.
However, once we entered Jasper National Park, it was clear we would not make our original destination. We pulled over every few kilometres to photograph animals and wade in the turquoise shallows. To my daughter, Brooklynn, wading means "let's get soaking wet and play with mud". Needless to say, her filthy wet clothing was removed and with no clean clothing in the car we drove into Jasper to purchase a new outfit. If you have ever been to Jasper, you have two shopping options: tacky souvenir shops or pricey outfitters. We opted for the latter and she is the proud owner of some new North Face gear that I wish would fit me. By then, we were too hungry to go on. We spent the rest of our evening enjoying the Jasper townsite. I guess Mount Edith Cavell will have to wait till next time! Here are some of the pics from our adventure. We saw tons of mountain goats and elk!
